RIP Papa Wemba

Born June 14, 1949 and died  April 24, 2016, Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba a.k.a Papa Wemba will forever be remembered in Congo,Africa and worldwide.

The famous Congolese Rumba,soukous and ndombolo artist died after falling ill when performing on stage at a music festival which took place in Abidjan, Côte d’Iviore. Though the cause of his death remains unknown, tributes from other renown artists such as Manu Dibango from Cameroon, Suzanna Omiyo from Kenya,alongside political heads, pay their tribute to the gone”Voice of Africa

Preparations for his burial are ongoing.

The 66-aged artist started his music career as member of Zaiko Langa Langa music group in 1960 before which he had been singing in religious choirs.

Later on joined isifi lokole and Yoka Lokole and became more popular with his group Viva La Musica in 1980 after their visit to Paris.

Part of more than 35  albums, he had duos with artists such as Koffi Olomide,Father J and Pepe Kalle. Some of his popular albums are L’esclave (1986),Le Voyageur (1992) and  Maitre D’école.

He Featurd in two films namely; La Vie est Belle(1987)  and Wild Games (1997).
